Big Toothbrush The Electric Toothbrush Vs The Manual Toothbrush Toothbrush Comparison Article

“Is an Electric Toothbrush Better Than a Regular One?”

By Bob Joy

We all know that brushing our teeth at least twice a day helps prevent the development of tooth decay and gum diseases such as gingivitis. If we don’t develop the habit of regular brushing we may one day end up with failing teeth. We definitely do not want that. But what is the best toothbrush to use? Many people now use an electric toothbrush over the regular ones. But are they really better?

Using an electric toothbrush offers deeper cleaning than manual brushing. This is because the faster speed at which the bristles move allows the brush to penetrate more deeply into the layers of our teeth, giving us better and deeper cleaning. They are able to remove plaque better because they go in between hard to reach areas in our teeth. As a result we end up with fresher breath as well. Bacteria love to grow in these hard to reach areas which ordinary toothbrushes are not able to get to. Electric toothbrushes, on the other hand, are easily able to reach and remove the bacteria leaving your teeth cleaner and your breath fresher.

Electric toothbrushes are also better at reducing gingivitis and other gum diseases because they are able get under the gum lining. Oftentimes, when we brush manually, we do so with too much pressure to be able to effectively remove plaque. However, brushing too hard can destroy gum tissue and cause our gums to recede and bleed.

Also, too much pressure while brushing strips off the top protective layer of our tooth, called the enamel, which may make our teeth more sensitive to cold, heat and other stimuli. An electric toothbrush allows us to remove plaque with minimal pressure thus protecting our gums and teeth.

An electric toothbrush is also ideal for people suffering from arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other conditions that limit hand and wrist movement because they do not have to work so hard. The rotating electric head does all the work for them.

It may seem that electric toothbrushes work more efficiently than manual brushing. However they are not the end all and be all when it comes to our dental hygiene. The type of toothbrush you use is not the most important factor here, but the way you brush your teeth, which includes how often and how long your brushing sessions are. Manual brushing can also be as effective if you do it properly.

Whether you use an electric or a regular toothbrush, what’s important is that you brush your teeth regularly and floss daily in order to ensure that your teeth are healthy today and in the years to come.
